About Us
Yalambi is the property of Sue and Clive Hovell and is capably run by their son, Rory.
Sue and Clive purchased the property in 1998 and, with Sue running the equine side consulting with Rory, the stud ticked along quietly breeding a select number of mares. We were fortunate that our progeny sold to very good riders; in fact, the first horse sold was ‘Indigo’, who, under the training of David and Linda Dobson, is now winning at World Cup level. Another mare, Profyta Velvet, sold to the U.S.
Rory returned home to Western Australia after 12 years abroad in October, 2006 to run the family stud. He brought with him, not only his partner, Emily, herself a capable horsewoman, but also a wealth of experience and a team of young showjumping horses. Rory trained and competed with trainers such as Markus and Merredith Beerbaum, Eddie Macken, Kevin Babington and Ian Silitch. His competition highlight was to be selected on the Australian Team at the Olympic Qualifier in Aachen, Germany in 2003. He qualified from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, with a BSc(hons) in International Agricultural and Equine Business Management. His honours thesis focused on "Pedigree Nicking" (choosing the best possible combination of pedigrees) which, combined with his expert eye, has been invaluable in his choices of horses for the stud. He owned and ran an equine business in New Jersey for two years, training and trading young showjumping horses.
Rory is available for teaching and training.
He also consults on finding the right stallion for your mare.
